Susan Clark: Inspirational Music

Simple Song (for Haylee)

(Susan Clark)
April 14, 2013
Susan Clark/additional lyrics by Lynn Taylor

This was written for my first grandchild, Haylee.  I wrote it when she was pretty little, I think maybe around 18 months or so.  She's now a "big girl" at 5 and 1/2 and can sing this with me.  It pretty much stays in my CD player in my car so she can hear it whenever she wants.    In production, we fussed and fussed with the cello part but finally got a beautiful part, written and arranged by my producer, Scott Jarrett and played by Deborah Barbe.  Haylee identified the sound as a "big violin" and gave it her approval.

Simple Song (for Haylee) Music and Lyrics by Susan Clark; additional lyrics by Lynn Taylor

This is just a simple song to end the day with you

Nothin' hard about the notes, you can sing them too

There's somethin' 'bout the way you run and laugh and play

Takes me to another time...when I did the same

Just a simple song to end our day

This is just a simple song I wrote to share with you

You can add a verse or two when the day is through

Close your eyes and dream of pines and daffodils

Fuzzy worms and butterflies...upon your windowsill

Ev'ry day's a day for us to fill

Maybe we'll take a walk outside

To see what we can find

The day..is yours...and mine

Seeing the world pass through your eyes

Every thing is a surprise

Ev'ry corner we turn...brings us something new to learn

Now it's time...to go inside

So much has filled your mind

Rest now, just close your eyes

When you awake, I know we'll find

Brand new worlds for us to spy

I will see them too...as I walk and learn with you

This is just a simple song I wrote to share with you

I will sing it once again, when the day is through

Close your eyes and listen as you drift away

To a place where nothing's missing, everything's okay

Just a simple song to end our day
